Detangling and Combing

-Whether your hair is relaxed or natural, detangling takes patience and a gentle touch. Water, thick conditioner, and your own fingers will all help you separate knots and tangles without causing damage.

-Using your fingers, divide your hair into convenient sections. If you have long hair, twist it into four or more sections. If you have shorter hair, use hair clips instead. Either way, treat your hair as gently as possible. Wash one section at a time, and clip or twist it again once done. Smooth your hair back until it feels fully wet. Gently apply the shampoo or other washing treatment in a smoothing motion from scalp to tip. Massage the scalp with your fingertips, then wash thoroughly with water. Tilt your head back and wash in the direction your hair falls to reduce tangling. If your hair is very tangled when wet, consider taking a wide tooth comb in the shower to help loosen knots carefully. Being too rough or using a brush may split ends shorter or cause damage.

-Section by section, saturate your hair with a conditioner that has plenty of "slip." A conditioner with good slip makes it easy for your hair strands to slide past each other, practically undoing tangles by themselves. Detangler conditioners, hair mayonnaise, or other creamy conditioners generally work best. You may need to try several to find one that works on your hair type. Whenever applying conditioner, focus on the ends of the hair, the oldest and most easily damaged area.

-Cover your conditioner-coated hair with a plastic cap. Leave on for 10–20 minutes to allow your hair to absorb the oils. Let out one section of your hair. Detangle as much as possible with your fingers. Do not use force If your hair starts to dry out, add more water. The weight of the water pulls your hair downward, lengthening curls and making them less likely to tangle.

-If your fingers can't do the job, move on to a seamless wide-toothed comb or a widely spaced, rubber bristled brush (such as a Denman brush). Start from the ends, gradually combing from higher points as the hair detangles. After detangling each section, the hair should be braided, twisted, or hair clipped in such a way that it won't tangle back up.

Remedies for Dry Hair

Remedies for Dry Hair and Scalp

▪︎ Get a trim

If your hair is too dry, it might need a reset in the form of a fresh cut. Even if your hair isn’t very long, split ends can make hair hard to style and contribute to it feeling dry or coars.

▪︎ Take vitamins

You know that you need vitamins to nourish your body, but certain vitamins directly impact the health of your hair and nails, too. Vitamin A, vitamin C, biotin  (sometimes called vitamin H), and the mineral iron will all contribute to hair that looks healthier.

Because prenatal vitamins contain all of the above vitamins, some people take them just for the way they affect their hair. It’s also popular at the moment to take supplements that contain only biotin to make your hair look better.

▪︎ Avoid washing your hair every day

Shampoo removes dirt and sweat from your hair, but it also striosbyour hair of sebum. Sebum is the natural oil that makes your hair easier to maintain and, when you have the right amount, it's shiny. Too much sebum leads to a greasy appearance.

▪︎ Wrap your hair instead of air drying

If your hair is brittle and difficult to style after you wash it, it could be losing too much moisture during the drying process. Try wrapping your hair with a cloth or towel after you wash it instead of letting it air dry.

If you sleep with your hair wet, use a silk pillowcase to keep your hair’s moisture from getting absorbed into your pillows. If you leave your hair wet for long periods of time,  the damage is comparable to blow drying.

▪︎Cut down on heat styling

Heat styling to curl, straighten, or add volume to your hair might have been a part of your daily routine for years. It may also be the reason that your hair is drying out.

▪︎ Do Cold Rinses

Do not use hot water to shampoo hair,  lukewarm to warm only...hot water drys out your skin and hair.

▪︎ Use essential oils

Moroccan argan oil has become a popular home remedy for dry hair. Using a few drops of argan oil on the ends of your hair will give it a more finished and supple appearance.

What To Do When Your Hair is Overprocessed

Applying relaxers to previously processed hair or leaving chemicals on for too long are two of the most common mistakes made when it comes to straightening, it will lead to damage, breakage and possible permanent hair loss. While home kits are easier and cheaper to use, they also make it easy to overprocess the hair. Not waiting the recommended time frame between touch-ups is another risky move to make, even if you must apply your own relaxers (and we don’t know why you would), have a trusted friend help you with back sections of the hair whenever possible. Better yet, though, save those pennies and see a stylist for the task. It’ll ultimately save you money because you won’t need as many treatments to rehabilitate your hair back to health.

  • To help combat overprocessed hair, use a protein treatment, followed by an intensely moisturizing conditioner.

Hair Growth Tips For Alll Hair Types

* A balanced diet...proper nutrition...lots of water intake

* Keep hair in protective styles often(crochets, buns, ponytails, braids, braid -out, twist-out)...this will keep hair from excessive heat damage from blow dyers & flat irons. Keep oil on the scalp...this way the hair is left alone & able to grow.

*Take supplemental vitamins...(zinc, biotin, flaxseed oil)*Shampoo hair at least every 3 to 4 weeks...keeping a clean healthy scalp & hair is imperative to hair growth.

These are trying times for everyone now and adjustments have to be made, so having your hair styled and looking like the professionals do it is unreasonable now…. just keep your hair moisturized and use protective styling until things resume back to normal. Please do not use permanent dyes or use box relaxers …you will do more damage than good. Be patient and focus more on staying healthy.

Peace & Blessings!

Should I get a trim?

The belief that your hair grows faster when you cut it regularly is based on a myth. However, frequent trims to get rid of split ends will help keep your hair healthy and less prone to breakage. #dejavusaloncarmel #haircare #welovehair #welovebeauty #takecareofyourhair #charlottesalons #charlottenc #28226 #hairtips
